Establishment of Xenotransplantation Using Genetically Modified Pigs for End-Stage Organ Failure
In severe organ failure, organ transplantation is the final treatment option, but a critical shortage of donors remains a major challenge. This research aims to establish a novel transplant therapy using hearts and other organs from genetically modified domestic pigs. Starting with the heart and kidney, the project seeks to shorten transplant waiting times, save many lives, and lead the world with a medical technology originating in Japan.
